Activities
OVERVIEW
At WMS, we want students to get involved and have a good time. Our programs and activities foster respect and promote positive risk-taking. We encourage students to take action and make a difference. Organized by the Student Senate and the WMS Leadership Class, a number of student activities are offered throughout the year, both at lunch and before/after-school. Students may participate if they meet eligibility requirements.
ELIGIBILITY POLICY
- Athletics, Extracurricular and Co-Curricular Activities: Winters Middle School maintains a no “F” policy for all athletes and student leaders.
- Student Body Officers: To be eligible, all Student Body Officers must have at least a 3.0 Grade Point Average with no failing grades and set an example of excellence and citizenship. Students may be removed from office and the Leadership classes if they receive any referrals or have lower than a “B” in citizenship for any class.
- Student Senate: To be eligible, all members of the Student Senate (including members of the WMS Leadership Class) must have at least a 2.0 Grade Point Average with no failing grades, and demonstrate academic responsibility and positive behavior. Students may be removed from the class if they receive any referrals or have lower than a “C” in citizenship in any class.
- Athletics: Please see the athletic handbook in the athletics section of our school website. Thank you.
- Review/ Appeal Process: A review Board shall be established by the principal to consider special cases. Ineligible students may petition the review board regarding their ineligibility. The Review Board will determine if there are extenuating circumstances that should be considered regarding the eligibility of the student.
- Grade Review: Students wishing to participate in athletic, extracurricular or co-curricular activities will have their grades check at the most recent grading period, either progress reports or report cards.
DANCES
Several after school and evening Dances are sponsored each year. Dances are open to WMS students only; there are no guest passes! In order to attend, students must demonstrate good citizenship and self-discipline. In addition, a Dance Bid or permission slip signed by a parent may be required.
Dance Rules and Expectations:
- The District’s Dress Code applies to ALL Dances.
- School-wide SOAR behavioral expectations apply to ALL Dances.
- Students must arrive to the Dance during the first 30 minutes; late students will not be admitted without a parent.
- Students must make arrangements for a ride home prior to the dance.
- Students may not leave the Dance until it is over unless a parent comes to the door and picks them up.
- If a student is dismissed from the Dance for any reason their admission fee will not be refunded.
Students are excluded from Dances if they:
- Received an in-school or out of school suspension that day.
