OVERVIEW
Students develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills by studying pieces of literature and analyzing various genres of writing.
READING
Students read short stories, novels, plays, poetry, fables, myths, novellas, and informational texts to develop reading comprehension skills. In addition, students develop vocabulary strategies and the ability to analyze and respond to literature.
WRITING
Students gain experience writing in various genres including: persuasive essays, response to literature and auto-biographical incident. Throughout the year, students develop expository and narrative writing skills along with an understanding of spelling, grammar and punctuation.
LISTENING AND SPEAKING
Students develop the skills of effective communication by making presentations and engaging in accountable talk about literature.
